Golden light hitting tree trunks

Stayed up late into the night painting this, I get my creative bursts at the strangest of times. I think this one is getting somewhere, learning to hold back and go with your first paint stroke is so difficult to do, but here and there I managed to leave things alone in this one which I'm happy about.

Hi Paul Like Erik, I’m seeing both versions of this wonderful painting at the same time. To be honest, I’m not sure I see a problem with the distant trees in the original because the light falling across the ground in front of them does enough to tell me where they are in relation to the nearer ones. It is also clear that there are two banks of trees back there. What does change for me in the second version is not that the trees recede, it is that the directional light from the left now floods over them instead of staying in front of them. This creates a dreamier atmosphere in that part of the painting and it could be just one bank of trees. In either case, you have captured the light beautifully.
