The repetition of the trunks and the design of the negative sky shapes made an interesting composition, that attracted my attention to this small group of trees. The contrast of the textures of the shedding strips of bark against the smooth surface of the trunks, created some interesting patterns, and the shapes were linked by the overlapping clusters of leaves and small bush, making a strong design. Just for some variation, used Faber Castel- Polychromos coloured pencils for this sketch. Have you tried these pencils for sketching outdoors? Did you find them useful as a dry medium alternative?

Thanks for your comments Trevor. Just a few soft coloured pencils can be handy when sketching outdoors sometimes.
