Foggy morning commute

Taken from a local photo with permission. Built up in washes of ultramarine and burnt umber. This was a seriously foggy morning. I wouldn't want to be that driver to be honest.

I enjoyed creating the depth with the three trees as they recede into the mist along with the reflected lights in the water.

What interests me most is a painting that allows the viewer to create some kind of scenario or story for themselves, or it triggers a memory or a feeling, perhaps in this case they remember a particular journey.

If the painter can get to the point where their work is technically proficient so as not to distract the viewer from their reading of it then this becomes possible. Hopefully I'm getting there.

Time to google 'Whistler' for further foggy inspiration now.

Hi Paul

You very much are getting there. This has a truly evocative atmosphere and makes me recall vivid memories of driving in the fog. Also with regard to your technique, I love the confidence you display in allowing the grey mass on the right to read as trees for the viewer, without any fiddling about with it. Just perfect!
