Imagined snow scene
Hello, it's been a while since I posted, but I've been following the forum as much as possible! Haven't done a great deal of painting since before Christmas, but I'm gradually getting back into the swing of it. This one started out as just a quick sky practice, but as the pale grey from the distant trees spilled down the page it started to feel like it could be a snowy scene. I gradually added more elements over the following day or so, until I felt it was done. So, no planning in this (and totally 'imagined'), but hopefully a reasonable outcome for my first attempt at snow. The photo looks a bit dark at the top - don't think it's quite so 'heavy' in real life. I did the sky by painting a graduated wash of DS raw sienna light+permanent rose, left that to dry then re-wetted the whole sky and added patches of cerulean blue and the raw sienna/rose mix (thanks to Olly's sky tutorial!), followed by a thicker mix of cobalt blue and light red for the darker clouds. As always, I'd love to hear any feedback!

Thank you Howard, and you've made a really good point - glad it works :-) (yes, I did mean the photograph wasn't a completely accurate rendering of the painting, but it is definitely darker at the top - just not quite as murky as it appears on here)
