Lots of practice

I have been taking Olly's advice seriously and been practicing and using his process to attempt this painting from my own photo. The photo is of Spiky Bay in Tasmania on a cold day in October in 2019 although it looks quite warm. I did a tonal study, a practice run to determine the colours as I have new Daniel Smith half pans and then procrastinated for a week before finally jumping in to paint the picture. I have learned a huge amount from this, and can see a few sharp edges that I need to work on next time. But I am very happy with how it turned out. Painted on Arches CP which is also new to me and I am very impressed with it.

This is a good start Kerrie but could be improved by introducing some darker tonal values as Patty suggested, particularly in the foreground which will give a stronger feeling of depth to the painting. Suggest that the fence post and wire are a distraction and add nothing to the painting. Remember that you do not have to add everything that is in the photo! Greetings from Sydney.
