Meadows by the Sea
Here's a painting I made over the weekend, overlooking coastal meadows with the ocean just visible on the horizon, in Matunuck, RI., USA. It was a lovely early-fall day here in southern New England; the leaves are just beginning to change. I had attempted this scene the day before and was unhappy with my painting so I returned to the same spot the following day and painted it again. This is an eighth-sheet of Fabriano rough, I think. This landscape is a coastal plain formed from glacial outwash at the end of the last ice age, so it's fairly flat. I find it challenging to convey the beauty and distance visible in these very gentle land forms. I intentionally exaggerated the undulations of the land and the colors of the hedgerow, thinking a bit about the paintings of Thomas Hart Benton as I did so. I'd appreciate any comments that you have!

Thanks Edo! I get your point about the trees and good advice. I will check out those tutorials!
