Expectations

Hello all, I'm new here, but have been admiring Mr. Pyle's work for a while now. I started watercolor painting 2 months ago. I have no painting or drawing experience. But I have been following a lot of tutorials and learning. I did just watch his "The Best Way To Learn" video where he discourages this, but I'm not sure how else I can learn. Is it really such a heinous thing to watch "follow'me" videos during this period? I do try my hand at them by myself now and again to mixed result. But I do feel the tutorials have given me some sort of basis. Would love your thoughts.

Hi this absolutely resonates, and it seems we simply have to begin painting, errors, disasters and all. There is something magical about watercolours. As the name suggests fluidity. So with this idea in mind and having watched all those tutorials, the blank paper is staring back at me, where do I begin? It is getting those first marks down. It is a strange fear. Fear of what? Failure? Some rough paints and sketches lead us in unexpected ways, and ought to be playful and fun too, and it is good practice. Dive in and have fun. Thank you for raising this issue and giving me the opportunity to interact positively, and constructively.

We are learning to communicate with our own visual language, and inner emotional responses to natural environments, and maybe over thinking is a block, in our own fluidity, and creativity. The top image was a first paint before watching various tutorials. The most recent was diving in so to speak. Not great or skillful and full of 'mistakes'. Although 'mistakes' can lead us in new and unexpected ways. Painted on watercolour postcards to practice, and play.
