Spam and Forum Changes
Hi everyone.
Unfortunately, as many of you have noticed and helpfully flagged up, the forum has been attracting significant spam activity and fake account sign-ups recently. Changes have been made to stop this as we have a duty of care to our members and cannot provide a forum that facilitates the posting of potentially harmful links and content. The changes made have been targeted towards initial sign-up, with an email address confirmation required to authorise new accounts. Also included is an AI tool that may intervene on some posts if it considers that they may potentially be spam. In practice, this means that you may be prompted for an additional security procedure (reCaptcha) on some posts, but not others. We won't get an idea as to how sensitive the AI is until it has been running for a short while and so we'll just have to monitor that for the next week or so. It may be that the additional security on sign-up is sufficient and we can turn off the AI (which would be ideal.) Please just bear with us while we calibrate the new settings so that we have a combination that protects members without compromising the functionality of the forum and above all, please continue to enjoy the forum and don't allow the occasional extra security processes stop you from posting and sharing.
