Managing Edges???

Hi there! This is my first post - I hope I am doing it correctly! Please let me know if I need to do something differently.
Anyway, I have been avidly watching Oliver’s latest YouTube videos and finally got to the point where I would do some sketches. The photo shows what happened when I did my second graphite sketch intending to just concentrate on what needed to go where in the first wash on the left hand side of the image only. I made myself laugh, though, b/c I am full of beginner enthusiasm and once I got a brush in my hand and some moistened paint all my good intentions were forgotten! Rather than doing the sensible thing and following how Oliver started, I wet the whole page and fluttered around the entire thing - “edges”??? What are these “edges” of which you speak???. In my defence, I did notice that I often wanted the same colour on both sides of the painting, so sticking to just the left side didn’t really make sense. Also, it was fun! Even though this is obviously just a sketch with graphite all over it and paint definitely not sticking to where I put it, I rather like what is happening … and I learned that what I had planned would actually work how I wanted if I was more careful and used wet in wet far less ..
I hope you get a chuckle as much as I did

If I were you, I start with something more simple. Olivers demo can be followed by artists, that already have a certain level of skills. The good news is, Oliver has the techniques you need already on his older youtube movies. So try those for 6 months, and try than this one again. Could take up 6 years too. Learn first the techniques, and than make a painting. There are just a few that do it this way. I know Oliver did in 1987, so did I. But the social media today demands you can become a master in 6 months. Well, 10 year is a closer true.
