Other Media?
Just wondering, does anyone paint in any medium other than watercolour? ( Oils, pastel etc) or even mixed media. If you do, what prompts you to choose that medium? Is it because you feel the subject would look better in that medium, is it because of the subject matter itself ( if it's portrait, landscape, or abstract) ,the texture is important, or just an inner feeling?
Or if you paint only in watercolour, why is that your choice?
For myself, landscape is far and away my principle subject, and watercolour the medium for portraying it, as I feel it best represents our light and climate, here in the UK ( and I enjoy using it!). But occasionally, I paint in oils if I feel a heavier, more tactile finish is appropriate, or if it's an abstract, I use acrylics, for the combined properties of texture and drying times.
Apologies for the length of the post!š

I love to draw. I think I was born with a pencil in one hand and a camera in the other. I have a hoard of the old Prismacolor pencils that I guard closely, as they are no longer made. The new ones are just plain awful and frustrating. I also love the bite of graphite into good paper. That said, as I progress in watercolors, I have found the underlying sketch makes the painting and paint mixtures have positively affected how I blend my colored pencil drawings. In the field, I like watercolor pencils because they are so convenient and versatile. I painted in oils in high school (I'm retired now), but have no separate studio in our small house, and therefore, no way to tolerate the odors and no place to let them dry.
