The tonal values of colour
As a tonalist, the value of colour is always important in my watercolours. This is a small chart of my limited colour palette relating the colours when mixed, to a value scale. These are warmer mixes but can equally be mixed cooler. The value of colour is often one of the most mis-understood elements in watercolour, but can be used effectively to create perspective when understood. Dark tones that retain luminosity, can be achieved in this way without the addition of black. Please add your comments about value and colour. Thank you.
