Criterions for picture choice

Now the weather is cold and i don’t paint outside so much. I fall back to my fotos. What are the criterion’s for your choice of fotos? What attracts you or a strong composition, strong lights and darks? What foto is suitable for a painting?

For example, is have this foto from a vineyard in autumn. The sky was clouded, no strong contrasts. What attracts me, is the structure of the vineyards, which traces the landscape and the river floating through the picture. I made a small pencil sketch, but i am not really convinced. Would this give a good picture, what do you mean?

I made two approach’s to the scene, what do you think about it? I am not really convinced. The vineyard was a challenge and the colours are not so lucent, as i hoped. It looks too overworked. Any tips for me?

I will try, thank you Marion. I like the mixtures from Jeanne Dobie, but my colours often don’t look like hers. Its hard for me, to get really dark tones, or browns, but i will go on.
