The Banshees Of Inisherin
Just a quick movie tip! I saw Martin McDonagh's new film, 'The Banshees Of Inisherin' the other day, simply a fantastic movie, a dark comedy about friendship, family, local belonging, different outlooks on life, ambition and legacy. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are brilliant and have an onscreen chemistry I've rarely seen in a movie before. I guess, probably not since they both also starred in 'In Bruges'.
How is this relevant for a landscape forum, you might ask? I'm tempted to say: "Well, see the movie, and you'll get it". But I'll elaborate some. The movie is shot on Achill Island and Inishmore, near Galway, Ireland, and every frame literally is a piece of landscape art in itself. It felt like spending two hours in an art gallery, only the cinematography replaced the paintings. Ben Davis was director of photography, and deserves high praise. Go see it, it's a 10/10!
(And just to be clear, I'm in no way affiliated with this production, just a fanboy!)

Hi Erik, just catching up on the forum after a bit of an enforced hiatus. I saw the movie a couple of weeks ago and also loved it, although I fear the main themes and messages were mostly lost on me, particularly to do with the civil war. Amazing performances though, particularly by Colin Farrell who, up until now, I haven’t really been interested in as an actor (Brendan Gleeson I already love). And yes, I spent most of the movie agog at the scenery. Just beautiful.
