Big Meadows - Shenandoah
Many family obligations between Thanksgiving and Christmas distracted me from painting, but I did one landscape that I decided to share. I was inspired to apply the composition principles that I have been learning about from reading Catharine Gill's book Powerful Watercolor Landscapes. I am grateful to whoever it was on this forum who recommended this book. In this painting, I was trying to be intentional about the "what" in my landscape. This required me to demonstrate restraint in depicting the foregroun and sky to focus on the patch of light next to the distant hill and foliage. There are many things to improve and I am looking forward to more progress in 2024. Happy New Year and thanks for all the honest sharing that comes out of this forum. Being a member here had really helped be to grow.

Nice sky, the clouds actually look like water vapour! Also like the loose treatment of the mid and foreground, but have to agree with Edo regarding the hills.
