Painting Dramatic Skies

I've watched lots of YouTube and online videos on painting skies in general and I've had some success with then doing my own. However, when it comes to really dramatic skies I get somewhat confused. I'm not certain if there is a right way or wrong way of laying the paint down on the paper? When faced with something like a creamy yellow, orange and a turbulent looking dark grey , and grey being the predominant colour, is it done all at the same time, wet into wet? Or is it done in order light to dark and dried off in-between each new colour? I've also seen that some artists use paint almost neat from the tube, whereas others dilute? So you see my problem as someone who struggles to get it right! Thank you so much for any help or advise you may give.
