When on vacation to Nantucket, I took several pictures of the Brant Point lighthouse and I would like to paint the scene. I am wondering if anyone has thoughts about how to handle the railing. I plan on using an 11x14 inches or 9x12 inches piece of paper and at that size the railing is pretty small. I don’t think I can leave it out entirely …

thanks in advance,

Laurie

Turner, Sargent,Hilder all used black and white. And they are considered masters of watercolour. As long as you don't paint white clouds it stays watercolour.

Another example is Chien Chung Wei. A Taiwanese artist. Half his palette is opaque. But he often win the AWS prices.
