Will I ever learn, or should I stop trying?

Here is my latest watercolour painting of the local "polder", after my own photo.

I have been painting with oils for a few years, far from professional but loving it anyway. Always very realistic and my -10 brush is one of my favourites ;)

But I love the light, airy, watery looks of watercolour so since about 2 months I been having a go of it. But I almost always end up with a painting that might as well have been painted with oils. It lacks the loveliness of watercolour.

I have followed some so-called paintalongs, and then it goes well but I don't like doing that really.

My question is, what would be the best way to get the hang of this? Follow more of those paintalongs, copy watercolours I like? I have watched every YouTube by Oliver and my head knows where it should go, kind of, but the hand goes where it is most comfortable. I don't want to give up until I am sure it's just not my style, as much as I love it.

Thank you, interesting comparison. And yeah maybe you're right, maybe some more good paintalongs aren't too bad. Thank you for your story and advice.
