Info desired from anyone familiar with Glen Coe, Scotland
Although I usually paint familiar places, I've been asked to create a large painting of Glen Coe, a place I have not been. I've "driven" up the A82 on Google Maps streetview, watched videos, and collected myriad online photos. The ones I like the best, because of the light and shadows, show the sun peeking above hills in front of and to the right of the Three Sisters. I'm including a combination of 2 cropped photos with a peice of my first quick small sketch to show what I mean. Here is my question...as far as I can tell the viewer is looking west northwest, so how can the sun be there? I am at 40 degrees latitude and Glen Coe is 56 degrees and I can't wrap my head around it even though it is a summer view. If the view was to the south it would make sense. Before I paint this I feel a need to understand how I am seeing what I think I am seeing. Can anyone enlighten me? If so, thank you.

Hi Connie, I have not been to Glen Coe but I have been on Google maps and I think your pictures are photographed from a bit of road looking down the valley roughly westwards maybe slightly North westwards. The sun sets in summer on the north side of west depending on the date so concievealy the sun is setting here in the north west while the centre of the picture is looking more westwards. I may be completely wrong but that is my reading of the situation. Nice sketch btw.
