Does size matter?

I know that a skilful artist can create something beautiful on any size of paper, but for the beginners amongst us, what is a good size of image to be aiming for? Or doesn’t it matter? Are there creative benefits to going larger or is it all just harder to control? Does it depend on the technique?

I paint on either a spiral bound Langton pad, or a Langton Prestige block which are 10x14 inches, and with one or two exceptions, I tend to paint two scenes on each page. So they end up being about 6x9 inches in dimension. I also have a few loose 1/4 sheets of Arches that I will divide further, but I only use these occasionally. I have a feeling 6x9 is quite small, but I can get quite nervous about trying to fill a big sheet. Just me? I’d be interested to hear what everyone thinks and how it might have changed for you over time. Thank you!
