Paper Samples

I just received my sample pack of Cuthbert Mill papers, so before I try these all out I thought I would share how they look as they are all different.

Im really just focused on the CP paper. So you can clearly see the difference in texture between the waterford and the bockingford, which has a more mechanical look to it. The 'white' waterford is very creamy in colour.

Now up until now ive used Arches and a little W&N paper (below), what is interesting is that the colour of the Arches is in between the white and high white waterford. The W&N is whiter than the waterford high white (although that's hard to see in this photo).

Arches and W&N are a little rougher than waterford CP(NOT) but not quite as rough as the waterford rough.

Milford has the same texture as waterford CP(NOT) but the same whiteness as the rough.

I can clearly see why Edo talks about using the back of the waterford papers as its smoother but still has the nice natural texture.

So basically they are all different! and thats just how they look and feel. I will provide an update once i've tried these out, I'm very curious.

I will also order some Langton by Daler Rowney as thats the paper Olly favours at a later date.

I think it's worth trying all these out as a beginner.

This sample pack only cost a couple of euros.

"Oh the joys of watercolour, I will master it one day,… Or do you ever ? "

You don't want to master it....then half the fun and excitement is gone! The magic of watercolor is those happy accidents that you could not have painted if you tried. The watercolor painted it, but you get all the credit LOL
