Brush Sizes

Maybe this is a question that is easy to answer and maybe the answer is obvious, but not to me! I don't have many watercolour brushes, perhaps a dozen, but they are of different brands and types and different sizes, probably not unusual there. However, I have two brushes by different makers both of which are of similar actual size, one is a size 16 and the other a size 4. Two other smaller brushes are both a size 10. So my question is how can I relate the brush size number to the actual size of the brush if buying online. Do different brush types, quills, rounds, riggers etc. have their own sequences that correspond across different makes or do each brush maker do their on thing in numbering the size of their brushes?

Thanks for these comments all. I guess that the problem lies with the numbering of quills and mops, which for some reason have lower numbers for bigger brushes. I guess perhaps there aren't any very small quills and mops so they start big anyway and begin with a low number so compared with a round a small mop has the same number as a much larger round. Rounds and flats can be very small and so have to begin with very low numbers. All very interesting😀
