Hi everyone!

I have included some photos of my progress so far on my sketch/practice version of Oliver’s latest video series. Obviously, it is still not finished. I have decided only to include the two closest boats b/c I simply didn’t feel that I could see the others well enough to be able to see how to draw and paint them. This has left me with a little dilemma, though, in that I have to come up with a reasonable way to render the river and bank where the boats would otherwise be placed. Now, initially, I thought the light was coming from low on the right and kind of in behind or level with the plane of the paper and that the shadow on the left hand bank was likely related to the large trees on the right hand bank. After looking closer, however, I don’t think that can be the case b/c the shadow on the left bank doesn’t seem to meet up with the right hand bank at all, and we can’t really see shadows from the boats. Now I am wondering whether the light is actually low down and on the right, but right around kind of behind the viewer so that the boat shadows are in front of them (and thus not visible) and all of the cast shadow we can see is actually from objects basically out of view and kind of behind us. The reason that I am trying to be reasonably accurate with the origin of the light is b/c it has implications for what the bank and water might look like where I have to imagine them. What do you think???
