Painting large
The two paintings below are small images, about 5"X7", that when matted, fit nicely in an 8"X10" frame. I find these small images MUCH easier to do than larger ones. I have tried similar scenes in larger formats that would fit in a 16"X20" frame, but I'm afraid they very quickly take a terrible turn for the worse! I've had some success in going a little bit larger, like up to 8"X12", but I get really discouraged trying to paint larger because they seem to turn quickly into disasters.
I've noticed that both Olly and Edo paint so beautifully in much larger formats. My question, simply stated is: "Why is it so much more difficult to paint larger?" For me, it seems to get exponentially more difficult to step up in size. Suggestions are most welcome!

I agree on the points above. Mostly the large brushes, which hold a lot of water and paint are important. Mixing larger amounts of color is easier with color from tubes.
I guess your problem might be, that people look at a larger picture from a longer distance.
If you paint, you might sit in front of it and stand up to look at it. On the larger one you could try to go some steps back to get an impression while painting.
But it is just a suggestion. I am mosly painting smaller pictures myself.
