Too Fussy?

When dipping into tube colours on my palette, I always clean my brush first. I’m fussy, maybe too fussy, about keeping the source colours clean as I mix on the palette. But I see some painters don’t worry about this and go strait into the next colour, leaving behind some residue of the previous colour. Perhaps once done they clean and wash the palette colours before putting more colour on the palette.

John Pike always squeezed out two heaps of yellow, and hoped he could keep one clean.

A tip is to dip your brush in the lighter colour. I have for years, and still do when I make green, I dip first in the blue.

I think because it's easier to control a green by adding yellow than you add blue to a mix.

Maybe I have to try the two heaps from Pike. 😁
