I am wondering about choosing how far/close up details should be accepted into the forum. I am in the process of creating a mixed media drawing of an oddly distorted tree; drawing its details with graphite pencil and then using watercolor washes over it. I just saw an article about the rivalry about Whistler and Ruskin in the Jackson's Art Blog, and noticed that many of the featured works showed this technique. I know many artists sketch a scene with pencil, sometimes in great detail, such as an elaborate building. I wanted to get the details right with a good drawing, setting my values with the graphite. I guess it's an experiment, and I would like to post it here, not on social media. May I have some guidance, please?
