Skies and exploding pigments

Good morning! I forgot about this forum and now I discovered it for the second time.

I am practicing skies. I made a sky, wet on wet on Arches paper, cold pressed paper, 100% cotton. I wetted the back and front of the paper with a natural sponge. I mixed some cobalt with cerulean and a little lavender to create a blue sky between the clouds. I experienced a big spread of the mixture. Like spikes. I wanted smoother clouds. Not so spiky everywhere. Is the paper ok? Is the paint too wet maybe? I keep on trying but tips are welcome. Thank you!

Always better, because you invest in your own style. And you probably can use the techniques you learned.
