Issues with wash

Hi, just went to start another painting.

Stretched paper yesterday.

Wet paper this morning and applied wash of yellow echre and cad yellow and the result is below.

All colour gone to one corner.....board flat and paper has buckled up again!

What did I do wrong......I cannot lift colour out!

Hello Khris!

I know the paper you are using well and I can guarantee that it is not ideal for the type of work you are trying to make.

The low grammage combined with the fact that it is 100% cellulose means that there is not much absorption capacity, with makes the excess water and pigment flowing to the edges - precisely what happened to you.

This does not mean that the paper is of poor quality, but that its characteristics are more suitable for other types of work such as: illustration, line and wash, simple studies, or other things that are done wet on dry and with few layers or washes.

My recommendation for your problem: Any watercolor paper that is at least 300gms.
