Essex (MA) Salt Marsh Paintings
I recently joined Oliver's Patreon group and look forward to participating with the community of artists that he has fostered. These two paintings depict an area that I love to visit. In addition to watercolor, I used watercolor pencils to give the marsh grass some texture.
Based on some comments and my own thoughts, I painted another version of the November one, with mixed results. I need to keep working to make my colors less saturated and soften the edges of the distant trees. In my opinion, the August one is the most successful.
November version with toned down grasses; distant trees too saturated with hard edge.

Heidi, Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I am tempted to try the early November one again with subtler colors for the marsh grasses. I could try some movement or reflections in the water while I'm at it.
