Practice makes....better
I was inspired by some recent posts using a very limited palette, and thought I'd have a play. These four minis are imaginary landscapes using French Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna, and by the time I'd finished them I thought it was worth trying to do a 'proper' version.

So these next three are all 7"x5", on relatively cheap paper (Clairefontaine Goldline 200gsm cotton/cellulose mix). The clouds went horribly wrong in this first one, and the distant shoreline wasn't dark enough, but I liked the tree.

Much happier with this next one, although the clouds still aren't quite right.

Then I had another go, but with different colours - this time Cobalt Blue, Permanent Rose and some Light Red in the foreground. Decided to leave out the clouds this time - will have another go after Olly's covered that in the upcoming tutorials ;-)

I think this is the first time I've tried painting with such a limited palette, and without any kind of reference image, and I have to say it was a lot of fun! I always tend to try slavishly copying photos, which I'm trying hard to stop doing, so not having a reference at all was a good exercise in practising that!

Thanks for sharing this Helen, as Art said it's interesting to see others processes. It was worth doing as your last picture has a wonderful atmosphere.
