First post - Blairgowrie towards Mount Martha
This is my first post, and keen for any constructive input from others. Go easy though as I’m very much a rank beginner - I only started watercolour painting around the xmas holidays, and there is clearly much to learn!
This is a view from Blairgowrie towards Mount Martha, on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne, Australia. It’s intended as a colour study ahead of what I hope will be another attempt next weekend.
I’ve been playing with different colour mixes to get things a bit less flat and show distance better. Unsure how I can make the trees on the right to be more convincing, and also to make the sand a bit less flat. Next time I’ll also use some dry brushing in the water to get some more highlights in it.

I think you are wise to do a “test run” before the actual painting. It really is a good way to test out which colors and mixes you want to use and to try unfamiliar techniques. It is an opportunity for experimenting without worrying about the result. It has helped me a lot to work out some problems in advance. Please keep posting as everyone here seems to be very helpful and supportive. We are all struggling to progress.
