California vineyard

California vineyard

Watercolor 11x15

This painting is a representation of vineyards from Napa and Livermore in California  with rolling hills, oak trees, golden color dry grass in the summer and mountains

I focussed on painting using 3 layer technique of light, middle, dark.  The middle wash was tricky because of the discontinuous rows of vineyard. Also focussed on capturing the depth with value gradation. I tried to leverage the symmetry of the vineyards to capture light and shadow layers while keeping the painting loose. If I were redo the painitng, I would focus on getting the middle value in less layers

Prasad, I also tend to put more in a painting than is recommended so I appreciate your pursuit of simplification--something I am also working on. But I wonder if there isn't a "market" for something like you have here. I would hang that on my wall and every time I passed I could take a different imaginary journey--to the left, to the right, up the middle, over this hill or over that one... And my mind is filling in what I might encounter each time I go out of view behind a tree or the house or the next hill. So thank you, I enjoyed hiking through your painting of Napa vineyards and I may never actually get there. There is less information than a photo would contain and I don't feel like it is too busy since I tend to like to have a lot to look at. I suppose such different approaches lead to differences in one's style.
