Jamison Valley, Blue Mountains National Park

This watercolour was painted on site from across the roadway, with a view towards Mt Solitary. It is just a small A4 colour sketch that attempts to capture the atmosphere of that morning - it is not a photographic image or a fully composed large painting. From this ridge there are numerous walking tracks, steps and ladders down into the deep valley below, beside several waterfalls. Eucalypt trees dominate on the higher and dryer ridges, but cool temperate rainforest trees and tree ferns feature down in the valley. Have often seen Lyre Birds (who are famous for imitating every possible sound they hear) when walking in the valley as they like to scratch in the loose soil at the side of the tracks. It is a beautiful, peaceful valley that is always a delight to visit. Saunders Waterford 100% cotton 300g. Usual limited palette of four Windsor & Newton pigments - A. Yellow, Rose Madder, Cobalt Blue, Viridian. All comments welcome.

Nice sketch Marion. Gives me the impression of a cool early morning ( ( though I'm probably completely wrong about the cool!)
