National Park in the Netherlands, Meijendel
Here are some paintings i've made in the last couple of weeks. I've been painting directly in this Dutch nature reserve, the first image is a sketch i made on site. I do love the immediacy of working outside. The other two I made in the studio - I was fascinated by this fallen tree - it looks a bit like an injured beast of some sorts, I've tried to use my brushes in various ways to give the tree and surroundings some interesting texture. In the image of the woodland glade, i loved the arrangement of the fallen trunks in the foreground that create a sort of stage and wanted to show the sunlight shooting across the scene, the twisted oaks are fascinating - how they seem to reach out to one another, so i've attempted to express something of that feeling. Comments welcome.
