Morning Dog Walk
As so often happens, at any time of the year, I take the dog a walk in the rain, sometimes light rain, sometimes a thunderstorm. So I thought I would try to paint the experience but am very unsure that I have it right. The dark cloud on the left of the picture I don't think is right, though the other two are less wrong perhaps. I left the foreground fairly loose. If you get the feeling from this thank the dog and I are getting wet then I guess I have something right! Any advice is very welcome.

I like the 'window' you have created between the land and the clouds - it gives a good sense of depth and gives a greater sense of the all encompassing rainy weather.
A lot of what makes a painting successful is the ability to allow the viewer space for their imagination to roam and fill in the gaps. Composition and the 'story' in the image are key factors in achieving this. Which you have with the window and the walker.
The other is understatement. Try putting less focus on the outer sides of the trees and the near fence, blur them a bit with a wet brush - all the detail should be on the figure and the gate (more pertinently the light coming through the gate) and then this feeling will be further accentuated.
