The effect of local weather
How much does our local weather determine our choice of pigments and how we use them in our landscape paintings? Here in Sydney in our mild winter, we still enjoy mainly cloudless blue skies and bright sunshine, so shadows remain transparent reflecting the light and plants retain their mid-tone colours. A limited palette of transparent colours is all that is generally needed for these local weather conditions.
How does local weather effect your choice of pigments? Do you use particular pigments for special effects? All comments welcome.

I envy Oliver Pyle's ability to walk over the grassy fields. Here in Cambridgeshire, East Anglia the land is mainly arable and therefore private. One has to stick to permissive footpaths. In Thriplow there are only three footpaths. The landscape does change throughout the year. beautiful soft greens in the Spring and strong yellows at Harvest time with dark green trees, then reds, yellows and browns in the Autumn. Winter is dark silhouettes of the trees against pale blue skies.
