Compositional Confusion!
The world and his wife seem to paint views of Staithes, so last autumn I was visited it and made a sketch, which I recently developed into a watercolour. I am not happy with the finished result, and I have not posted it in Image Sharing as I'm not really looking for critique ( Though you are quite welcome to voice your thoughts).
The reason I put it here is that I decided on a composition, painted it, then decided it wasn't well composed, so I changed it, decided I didn't like that, so changed it again - you get the picture? ( No pun intended). So here is the original, followed by the other versions, I thought it might make an interesting discussion on composition, look forward to hearing your thoughts.

This is the original.

Found the right hand side uninteresting, so cropped it.

Thought the house on the right looked a bit odd, so cropped that.

Thought it would be better balanced with a bit more off the right, but found it looked cramped.

Finally, decided that the original composition was best, but with the left hand house cropped out.
Sorry this is so long with so many images.

Thanks for your input Paul. The "strange" wall to the right is part of the harbour wall. There are so many excellent paintings of Staithes, that I was chancing my arm somewhat attempting it! But as I was visiting the area I couldn't resist. To be perfectly honest, I didn't find it that picturesque! Maybe it's not the subject for me.
