Inspirational landscape artists
Hi everybody,
When I feel a bit stuck in a rut, lacking inspiration and motivation, to me, there's no better remedy than to immerse myself into the works of my favourite artists, bands, novels, movies, etc. Whether it's taking another dive into those magic, deep cuts of The Kinks’ albums of the late sixties, or the works of internationally lesser known masters like fellow Norwegians, Christian Krohg, Harriet Backer and the brilliant landscape artist, Kitty Kielland, I get so much comfort and inspiration from revisiting what has formed my cultural perception, that after fully immersed, it's almost impossible not to feel the urge to pick up the brush again, or the guitar, for that matter.
On that note, I thought: It would be nice to have a space where we can share artists who inspire us. Most of us in here are familiar with both Olly and Edo’s work, and if you’re not, I suggest you get to it, immediately. We’re lucky to be in the direct presence of two modern watercolour masters, even if they’re probably way too modest to admit to that claim themselves.
There’s another great thread in here, Watercolour Literature (https://www.oliverpyle.com/forum/general-discussion/watercolour-literature), which addresses books on the subject of watercolour, but there are several artists who’s yet to publish a book, our in-house masters (imho) included, and I thought this could be a suitable thread for that purpose. I, for one, love to discover new art that inspires, both past and present.
I’ve already name-dropped some in various threads already, but here are some brilliant, maybe lesser known, painters I’ve discovered during the 18 months I’ve been painting:

I have not read through all 91 Comments, but if no one has mentioned Ray Hendershot, I would definitely include him. I am fortunate enough to have recently obtained a used copy of RH's book on textures and am looking forward to learning a lot more about that. Ditto Skip Lawrence, whose book I also recently found and will be using to learn more about light and shadow. Both of these were American artists.
