a VERY basic question.

Hi everybody!

I have a very basic, very simple question, but one which has been a source of frustration for me ever since I started painting with watercolours, and still is, to this day! It's the matter of un-loading a brush, when mixing up bigger puddles of paint.

When I look at tutorials and demos, I can see the artist add water to the palette, dip into the paint, and then the paint seem to just "magically" release into their palette, creating nice, big puddles of paint. When I do this, all the readily mixed paint just wants to stay in the brush! I can get some of it onto the palette, brushing against the edge of the palette well, but most of it still stays in the brush. I've tried pinching the tip, different wrist movements(!), different brushes for mixing, but I seem to never get the hang of it.

Does anyone have this magic touch? How do you do it! 😂

(I use a porcelain palette now, but have had the same issue no matter what palette I've used. My brushes are Da Vinci sables, Aquafine sables, wash brushes and synthetics)

I use a palette, as below, when it is shut it is waterproof. www.notesfromtheroad.com/roam/waterproof-watercolor-palette.html Don't forget Olly uses a absorbent cloth to wipe his brushes on so that not too much water is added to his paint.
